MTC at the BFTTA and BBHAC Opens

Momentum Track Club · 19 August 2026

Momentum Track Club athletes competed across two open meets over the weekend of 15 to 17 August, with performances at the BFTTA Open at Lee Valley on Saturday and the Blackheath and Bromley Harriers AC Open at Norman Park on Monday evening.

At the BFTTA Open on 15 August, George Storey ran a personal best of 8.11 in the 60 metres into a -1.5 headwind — a mark that is particularly notable given the conditions. Running a PB into a headwind removes any wind-assistance caveat entirely; 8.11 against the wind is a genuine benchmark. George has been documenting his season in the Storey's Stories series, and the 60m PB at Lee Valley adds to a year in which he has also set legal PBs in the 100m at Stratford. He also completed the 200m on the day. Sam Ige, who competes for Belgrave Harriers and carries a 100m PB of 10.47, also competed at the BFTTA Open, running two rounds of the 100m and the 200m.

Monday's Blackheath and Bromley Harriers AC Open at Norman Park brought a larger MTC contingent across the sprints and 400m. Ryan ran 10.89 in the 100m and 21.79 in the 200m, continuing a summer in which he won U18 200m gold at the England Athletics Age Group Championships in July. Arun Watkins ran 11.92 in the 100m and 24.70 in the 200m. George returned for a second meet in three days, running 12.88 in the 100m and 40.16 in the 300m — breaking 41 seconds in the 300m at this stage of the season reflects sustained fitness through a long competitive summer, and the 40.16 sits just outside his 300m PB of 40.10.

Charlie ran 51.91 in the 400m, and Bella Shepherd-Evans ran 57.86 over the same distance. Bella had broken the sub-57 barrier for the first time at the Robin Chandler Memorial earlier in the season, and a 57.86 at a late-season open meet maintains that level. Chloe ran 41.33 in the 300m, following her 11-second 400m personal best of 58.10 at the Stratford Speed GP the previous week — two strong performances across adjacent distances in quick succession.
