BFTTA Open Meet

Five Momentum Track Club athletes competed at the BFTTA Open Meet at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, with conditions making it one of the windier days of the outdoor season — gusts reaching up to +5.9 m/s at various points across the programme. With the legal limit for wind assistance set at +2.0 m/s, the vast majority of times recorded on the day fall outside the threshold for personal best consideration. The athletes competed regardless, and there were still useful performances to take from the session.
Ryan was the fastest of the MTC contingent in the 100m, clocking 10.85 and 10.90 across his two rounds. His 10.90 was a legal time — a notable result given how few performances on the day fell within the +2.0 limit. He also ran the 200m, finishing in 21.53 into a +3.5 wind. Ryan has been one of the standout performers in the MTC sprint group this season and times in the 10s in any conditions reflect genuine speed.
Basit raced in two rounds of the 100m, clocking 11.49 and 11.25 — the latter coming with a wind in excess of +5 m/s. Even heavily wind-assisted, an 11.25 at Lee Valley indicates speed that will translate into strong legal marks when conditions are more cooperative.
Para athlete Daniel Nabhani ran 12.99 and 12.65 across his two 100m rounds, continuing to push toward the personal best territory he has been approaching throughout the season. George Storey ran 12.66 and 12.25 — the 12.25 coming with a +5.9 wind, the strongest recorded for any MTC athlete on the day. He also ran the 150m in 18.59 into a significant tailwind. George has written about the BFTTA series at Lee Valley in the Storey's Stories competition diary, noting the close seeding and Donald Brown's commentary as regular features of the meeting.
Pat Logan completed two rounds of the 100m in 12.58 and 12.53, both with winds over +3.5 m/s, before adding a 200m in 26.25 with a +4.4 wind. Logan is competing at M65 level and earlier this year returned from the European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor in Toruń with three medals and a European record in the 4x200m relay. He continues to turn out consistently at open meets through the outdoor season — the same approach to competition that has produced results at international level.
Wind conditions at open meets split views among athletes — some prefer not to compete when times will be largely wind-assisted, others treat it as a useful stimulus in race conditions. The MTC group showed up and raced across multiple rounds in difficult conditions. The legal 10.90 from Ryan was the standout legal mark from a session where the wind made everything else academic for the record books.
