Sports Psychology

In order to be able to race (and train) at our best we need to be in the right frame of mind. Sports psychology helps prepare you for this.

Sports Psychology - You already do it!

Have you ever gone through the race in your head before you run? Have you ever tried to relax before a race?

Have you ever had an aim for the season? Have you ever tried to get yourself ‘up for it’?

Whether we are aware of it or not, we all use psychological techniques. Just like any other coach, a sports psychologist’s main job is to make the athlete aware of what they're doing and help them handle any stressful parts of their situation.

Across these pages we'll give a brief outline of some psychological techniques and theories. We suggest that you consider using the ones you are already using; it is easier to modify a technique than to learn a new one. However, have a go at the others as they may help!

This is only meant to be a general explanation. If you need a more specific technique to you, then contact us or a sports psychologist.
