Getting the best from yourself is a mixture of physical and mental talent. Don't just concentrate on the physical.

Positive Talk is a great way to provide motivation for sports people from a psychological point of view. It enables you to fill your head with positive thought - stopping negative thoughts from impeding performance.

As great way of providing motivation, we would suggest that positive talk should be used for all athletes.

The rule here is that all statements to others and to oneself should have a positive slant to them. Self belief is a powerful tool to any athlete, and keeping positive will reinforce and strengthen this self belief.

Statements such as “I can’t go on, I have no energy left” should be changed to “this is hard, it must be the ‘wall’, and when I get past this it will get easier.”
