Running Technique Session

Probably the most requested topic for searches on our site is for details of how to technically run well. This incorporates learning about different running sessions, but more importantly about learning how to running properly.

We are holding a Running Technique Session, which will include a quick discussion about the principles of running technique, a warm up, mobility drills, running technique drills, application of the drills to a running session and strengthening work to improve posture and leg strength.

When and Where will it be?

These session are now held monthly, generally near the start of the month. Mainly they are on a Sunday, but from time to time we'll do a Saturday to help those who are otherwise engaged on Sundays. They are at Kingsmeadow Stadium, Kingston upon Thames at 11.00am, running for about 2 hours (will be 2.00pm if on a Saturday).

The dates for the next few months (early 2010) are as follows.

Each of the sessions will involve 2 main sections. These will be

Concentration on aspects of technique for individuals to work on

Drills and exercises to improve performance - these will be tailored to the individuals in attendance.

As you will be able to see from the site the aim is to run as efficiently as possible, allowing you to run for longer, at faster speeds, without wasting too much energy. The primary way that we teach our bodies to do this is by performing running drills and then practicing what we've learnt during our training sessions.

One limitation of the website is that whilst you can see what you are meant to be doing, but when you perform drills yourself, you can't see what you are doing. It is to help you improve your technique we are going to hold a Running Technique Session for anyone looking to improve the way that they run.

The cost of the session, if you book and pay in advance, will be 12, which includes entry to the track (currently about 3.00). If you turn up on the day and pay it is 15. Places will be limited, so if you would like to attend please fill in your details so that we know to expect you - whether you plan to pay on the day or in advance.
